Hi,
I have recently taken over our canoe club website - the former administrator has moved away taking the password with him!!!

How do I get Admin rights to our forum?
I am advised that I should edit the config.asp file to swap my details for his.
I can see the code in Dreamweaver.
However, I can't seem to identify the bit of code in question.
What should I change?
Help!
K

are you currently an administrator? (i.e. can you get to admin options?)

you can open the DB, change his email address to yours and then use the forgot PW function and the PW will be emailed to you.

No, I am not currently an Administrator - that's the problem!
I can't see the Admin options.

I need to change the code in Config so it thinks I am the administrator I guess.

Secondary question - how do I find out what my membership ID number is? It looks like the Admin = 1 but I cant see anywhere on the member listing where tis ref is stated for others.

I can't get at the database at present to alter the e-mail name.

Cheers

...because i do not have MS Access on my machine - I assume that is what the DB is written in.

Go to your profile on those forums and check what ID it shows in the URL. That's your member ID, so change the intAdminMemberID value to your own ID to become the "SuperAdmin".
To become a true admin though, you'll have to somehow change your member_level in the database to 3 (admin). You can do that by downloading the database and sending it to someone who does have MS Access 2000 or 2002, or if there are more admins than the one that's left, you can ask them to change your member level by editing your profile (if an admin does that, a member level select box will show on the page).

Well, I found out my ID ref, changed the code line in Config.asp and uploaded the new version.
Still no admin rights though so it looks like I will have to have a shot at the database to change the level in there.

If you can't make the changes yourself, and the database isn't too large, I can send you an email (so you'll have my address) and then you can mail the database to me. I'll make the necessary changes and mail the database back to you.

Thanks - that might be helpful.
At present, I have e-mailed it to someone who has Access and they are going to have a look & see if they can fix it - however, If we draw a blank, then your offer might be much needed.
The DB is currently ~600Kb

No, unless you change the forum code. The change would mean defining a new constant for the second admin and testing for equality to that second constant whenever the exsting superadmin constant is tested as well.
